TDCS Artists Prominent in Illustration World’s Annual “Bible”

Chicago, IL – April 16, 2009 – The Devil’s Candy Store (TDCS) is pleased to announce their artist Craig Elliott won a Gold Award for Editorial Illustration in Spectrum’s 16th annual yearbook for his concept art of NY Times best-selling author L.A. Banks’ Vampire Huntress character, Damali Richards. The art was created for The Devil’s Candy Store concept art book, “Exotic Contraband: L.A. Banks: The Vampire Huntress Legend,” which the TDCS launched during the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con. The Devil’s Candy Store artist Jon Foster also won a Gold Award in the category of Comics for his work on a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” #14 cover for Dark Horse Comics.

Craig Elliott, who has created art for films ranging from “The Enchanted” to “Bee Movie” and “Shrek,” also designed Damali Richard’s inspired jewelry for TDCS. Said Elliott, “I am enormously honored to be the winner of this much-coveted award. I also want to thank The Devil’s Candy Store art director Charlie Athanas, whose counsel influenced the finished piece.”

Stated Spectrum 16 Judge Dave Dorman, “Spectrum is the Bible of the illustration world.” The Spectrum annual, which Tor art director and Spectrum Advisory Board Member Irene Gallo calls “the most anticipated art annual in the genre,” launched in 1993 to provide high quality, fantastic-themed art work with a publication to showcase the best fantasy, science fiction, horror, and otherwise uncategorizable artwork created each year. Spectrum is sold in the mass market through all the major bookstores. Copies are also sent to many art directors and publishers to maximize exposure for the artists featured in the book.
